About us
Purpose
The Military Order of the World Wars Youth Leadership Conferences (YLC) provide students with an unique opportunity to participate in a leadership development seminar taught by leaders from the government, industry, military and the academic communities. The YLC’s are educational conferences that give U.S. High School students the opportunity to develop leadership skills via patriotic education.
Participants, who attend public, charter and private high schools or who are home-schooled may attend the San Diego YLC offered during the summer.
This conference is designed to foster participants to develop leadership capabilities and then encourage them to utilize their new skills to make their communities a better place.
Objectives & Goals
Background
YLC attendees receive patriotic education, including elements of leadership needed to maintain a free society, concepts of a free enterprise system, and the foundational principles upon which the United States were built. Attendees develop an appreciation for the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and an awareness of the civic responsibilities associated with preserving rights and freedom.
The primary goals of the Youth Leadership Conference are:
- Develop leadership skills and encourage self-actualization
- Develop a deeper understanding of our national heritage
- Understand the basic concepts of democracy
The Youth Leadership Conference is for students in current grades 9, 10 and 11 and is part of a national education outreach program sponsored by The Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) and National Sojourners, Inc.
The youth leadership and american studies curriculum for the San Diego Youth Leadership Conference has been designed to achieve the same educational objectives as the MOWW Freedom Foundation, located at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.
All secondary school conferences are approved for listing by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) on their National Advisory List of Contents and Activities.
